As soon as you take the new Fairphone 4 out of the box, you’ll see that it’s unlike any other smartphone. Compostable cushioning material protects it from damage during transport in the shipping carton. With the exception of the modular smartphone and the included screwdriver, everything is compostable.
You get in the mood for handicrafts even before you use it for the first time. A SIM card is not pushed sideways into the housing on a small slide, as is the case elsewhere. Instead, you have to remove the back cover and remove the battery – and then you get to the SIM card slot inside. That sounds complicated, but it’s done quickly. In addition to the physical Nano-SIM card, an E-SIM is also supported.

You can replace elements like the USB-C port on the Fairphone 4, which was not allowed in previous models.
Device production consumes a lot of resources, and 75 percent of CO2 emissions attributed to gadgets are generated during the manufacturing process. As a result, the longer you use a technology, the less impact it has on the environment.
According to the study, if you use your equipment for five years instead of three, you can lower your environmental effect by 31%. Since its first handset in 2013, Fairphone has released a total of five phones.
The corporation wants to shift away from the annual release of a phone and ask customers to keep their gadgets for longer periods of time.
