A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and Dewan Motors to install Electric Vehicles charging stations across Pakistan. Initial plan will be to install charging stations on Motorway service areas.
M-2 Service Areas in Bhera are selected for the installation of the EV charging stations. The MoU entails Dewan Motors’ upcoming establishment of an EV Charging infrastructure at various points on Pakistan’s main Motorways and Highways. The installation will increase the usage of Electric Vehicles in the Pakistan Market as it will help overcome the driving range issue for people driving between big cities.
In the second phase of EV charging points will be installed on Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, Swat Express Way and other Service Areas of different Motorways.
The Government is taking big steps to encounter the pollution issues specially in the densely populated and polluted areas. Currently Lahore and Karachi are the cities with highest Air Quality Index (AQI) determining the intense air pollution. So EV charging stations are to be installed to encounter the issue.
Government is imposing heavy fines on people and organizations, involved in polluting the environment. Lahore High Court (LHC) has reportedly ordered the concerned authorities to impose heavy fines on people who are directly involved in polluting the environment, including driving smoke-emitting vehicles and burning smoke-producing substances. Dumping garbage in open air. Companies are also ordered to allow employees to work from home to reduce vehicles movement and to reduce pollution.
The government is actively engaged in curbing the deterioration of the environment in densely populated cities, and especially in Lahore, which has critically high levels of air pollution. Additionally, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has reportedly ordered the concerned authorities to impose heavy fines on people who are directly involved in polluting the environment, including driving smoke-emitting vehicles and burning smoke-producing substances.
Miyawaki forests are planted (in Lahore) and are planned to be planted as a part of restoring deforestation issues. Billion tree tsunami is also a successful project to encounter the issue but more effort is required by the Government and also by the general public.
Now Electric vehicles are being added to the list of tasks as it will help with the air pollution issue. Government have reduced taxes on EVs to encourage people to move towards EVs and reduce the usage of Fossil Fuels.
