Ms. Marvel trailer depicts first Muslim superhero as a typical Pakistani American teen

In the viral teaser for Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Ms. Marvel, the first Muslim superhero Kamala Khan is unveiled.

The role will be played by Pakistan-Canadian actress Iman Vellani who will be seen as Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American student growing up in New Jersey in Ms Marvel.

The new Marvel limited series will follow Kamala Khan, or Ms. Marvel, as she grows up in Jersey City as an enthusiastic Pakistani-American fan of Captain Marvel.

New Jersey adolescent Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) awakens to powers that may come from a rare artifact in the teaser for Ms. Marvel, which will premiere on Disney+ on June 8. Kamala adopts the guise of Ms. Marvel as a result of her admiration for Captain Marvel.

The IMDB synopsis read, “New Jersey raised Kamala Khan discovers she has polymorphous powers.”

Iman Vellani, a 19-year-old Canadian-Pakistani actor, will play the Marvel superhero, while Matt Lintz will play Bruno Carrelli. Anjali Bhimani, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laurel Marsden, Mohan Kapoor, and others make up the rest of the cast.

Furthermore, Pakistani stars Fawad Khan and Nimra Bucha will appear in the drama, which will premiere on Disney Plus on June 8.

The Muslim-American teen was first introduced in comics in 2013 and got her own series in 2014.

Before Iman Vellani, Pakistan-origin actor Kumail Nanjiani played a superhero in Eternals.
