Pakistan to launch 5G by 2023 in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi

The government of Pakistan intends to introduce 5G in Pakistan by 2023, according to information provided by the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication (MOITT). Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore are the first three major cities to receive the launch.

Only 4% of Pakistan’s total population, according to the government’s forecast, will have access to 5G technology by 2025, while 65% of people will still be utilizing 4G.

Pakistan manufactured 15 Million mobile phones, imported 1.2 million phones in 2022

By the end of 2022, the Global System of Mobile Communications (GSMA) predicted that more than half of Pakistan’s population would be 4G users. Despite the fact that these predictions came true, the country is still three years behind the rest of the globe.

Although 4G adoption rates have lagged behind the rest of the world, they are anticipated to pick up speed in the next years.

Although 5G will begin to roll out in Pakistan in 2023, it will only make up a relatively small portion of connections in the years that follow.

19 mobile phone manufacturers in Pakistan created 60,000 jobs so far

Although mobile internet use is expanding in Pakistan, there is still much space for improvement. Last month, there were 123 million active mobile broadband subscribers, and market penetration was 51%. Each year, more and more mobile subscribers use mobile broadband as a percentage of all mobile subscribers.

The number of 4G users accounted for 50% of all mobile connections globally in 2019, according to data from the GSMA. Over 90% of people in low-middle income countries (LMICs) were using 3G, and 82% had a 4G connection. For 4G, it took these nations about 7 years, while for 3G, it took them about 10 years.

22.12 million mobile phones were “Made in Pakistan” while imports stayed at 9.95 million in 2021 (January till November).

It is evident that over time, even low-income nations are beginning to adopt next-generation telecommunications technologies more quickly. Therefore, it is reasonable to predict that the rollout of 5G technology in Pakistan will be quicker than that of 4G.
