Pakistan manufactured 15 Million mobile phones, imported 1.2 million phones in 2022

In contrast to the 1.21 million commercially imported handsets during the first eight months of 2022, domestic manufacturing facilities produced or assembled 15.61 million devices.

In August 2022, Pakistan produced or assembled 0.67 million mobile phone handsets.

Local manufacturing facilities produced/assembled 24.66 million mobile phone handsets in 2021 as opposed to 13.05 million in 2020, an increase of 88 percent.

According to PTA’s official figures, commercial imports of mobile phone handsets decreased to 10.26 million in 2021 from 24.51 million in 2020.

8.85 million 2G and 6.76 million smartphone handsets are among the 15.61 million mobile phones that were produced or assembled locally. Furthermore, according to PTA data, 46% of mobile devices on the Pakistani network are 2G and 54% of them are smartphones.

Nevertheless, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $101.864 million during the first two months (July-August) of the current fiscal year 2022–23, despite an increase in domestic mobile phone production.

24.66 Million mobile devices were “Made in Pakistan” in 2021

According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), mobile phone imports increased by 62.51 percent month over month (MoM), from $38.804 million in July 2022 to $63.060 million in August 2022.

A favorable environment for mobile device manufacture has been developed in Pakistan thanks to the successful implementation of the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) and supportive government policies, such as the mobile manufacturing policy.
