On the final day of the second Test at the National Stadium in Karachi between Pakistan and Australia on Wednesday, Australia was frustrated as a persistent Pakistan snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat.
The Pakistan vs Australia series is still tied after two matches, but the second Test outcome must have seemed like a moral victory for Pakistan, who were reeling at 21 for 2 in pursuit of a mammoth 506-run mark with a sea of overs remaining to survive.
After Pakistan started their innings at 192 for 2 earlier today, overnight hitters Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique extended their partnership and won the first session. It made the chances of Australia’s win and Pakistan’s draw equal.
Shafique missed out on a battling ton and then Babar’s 196-run innings came to an end when he was bowled by Nathan Lyon, who then went on to dismiss Faheem Ashraf on the very next delivery.
